Frequently Asked Questions

  • The previous owner, Amy, has retired from the store and sold each location to her long-time managers. We thank Amy for the legacy she left and hope to live up to and expand her influence in the community.

To avoid confusion with the two locations now being under separate ownership and no longer affiliated together, the Midlothian location is now CREATE Pottery Shop. While the name has changed, the store runs largely as it was before. We hope you will come as new our improvements and updates! text goes here

  • We’ve got you covered. Our trained staff will give you all the instructions and on hand help you need to CREATE with us.

  • Reservations are not required and generally are not necessary. There may be certain times of year, e.g. spring break, holidays, school holidays, and weekends, that may be busier when reservations may be more appropriate.

We do recommend reservations for any groups of more than 6. Group count should be based on the number needing a seat at your table. Please be courteous to other customers and limit the number of non-creators in your party.

Check out our party options, including options with a private party room!

On our busiest days we may need to start a waitlist for a table. Even if a reservation is made, if a day is especially busy, a wait still may be required for a group with a reservation. However, groups with reservations take priority over walk-ins.

  • Primarily, we operate as an open studio accepting walk-ins. However, we do offer a few recurring classes and workshops. You can view our current calendar here.

We also offer a 5 day art camp each summer. Learn more about Summer Art Camp.

Field trips are available for your children’s facilities with both in store and travel options.

We have a 6 week program that is perfect for elementary school’s Enrichment program!

  • Your price will depend on the project or bisque piece you select. Most items cost between $18 – $50. The cost of the project or bisque piece + tax is your final price. We do not charge additional studio or firing fees.

There are a few optional charges, such as a Rush Fee (reduces turn around time), Return Fee (if you need to continue working on your piece on an additional visit to the shop), Shipping Fee, Glaze To Go (if you wish to paint at home), Artist Fee (let CREATE paint a piece for you).

  • Most customers are at the shop for 1.5-2 hours. Younger painters may take less time and more advanced artists may take longer. We recommend planning ahead with groups of mixed ages to keep younger visitors occupied.

While there is no time restriction, we do ask you to be courteous to other customers wanting to visit the store on busier days in how long you stay.

If you are not finished with your projects and you need to leave or if we are closing, you can return to continue on an additional visit. Cost is $5 per customer creating.

  • Bisque pieces have a 7 day turn around time. Glass and clay have a 10 day turn around time.

We can rush pottery pieces to the next kiln load. Rush is not available for glass or clay projects. An updated turn around time will be confirmed during your visit. Cost is $5 per piece rushed.

  • We recommend you plan to pick up your items after 7 days. We will hold items for at least 120 days. After that time, items are considered abandoned and become the property of CREATE Pottery Shop.

  • We are happy to consider order requests, however, we cannot guarantee availability or timing for order requests. High priced items may require a deposit or pre-payment.

See our Pre-Order shop for items regularly available for pre-order.

  • Firing outside bisque and greenware brings several risks. Firing such pieces can result in damage to the piece and other pieces in the kiln. Due to these risks, CREATE Pottery Shop primarily recommends painting outside pieces with acrylic or another non-fired paint and we reserve the right to refuse to fire outside pieces.

If you are interested in having us fire your outside piece, call our shop to set up a time to consult with the manager. We recommend you bring the piece with you for this meeting.
